In memory of his cousin Thatcher, and his grandparents Jim and Margaret Markham, Tanner Kero has generously offered to provide scholarship money for families in need to allow them to participate in the CCJHA.
The CCJHA would like to invite anyone interested and able to help build a scholarship fund to allow those in need in the Copper Country to play youth hockey and grow the game that means so much to so many of us.
Thanks for your time, thoughts, and prayers. Thanks to Tanner and the rest of Markham family for their life-long dedication to local youth hockey.
Tanner Kero grew up playing hockey in the CCJHA. After a successful junior career, he was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing college hockey for Michigan Tech where he registered 55 goals, 56 assists, 111 points, and 67 penalty minutes in 153 games. In his senior year, Tanner lead the WCHA in scoring and earned the 2014–15 WCHA Player of the Year award. He was also named to the 2014–15 NCAA (West) First All-American Team. His hard work as a Husky drew attention from numerous NHL scouts, and he quickly signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks shortly after his college career was over. Tanner is currently playing for the Dallas Stars.
Tanner is one of many in his family of hockey players. His grandfather was Jim Markham, a copper country hockey legend. Jim spent numerous years playing and behind the bench coaching. In addition, he was involved with the CCJHA, MAHA, the Kenner Dome, Dee Stadium, and the Houghton County arenas. Jim and his wife Margaret had 5 daughters and 8 sons, most of which played hockey locally, and now have children and grandchildren playing hockey locally. The Markham name is synonymous with Copper Country hockey. Both Jim and Margaret have passed away, but their legacy lives on through their children and grandchildren.
