FUNDS RAISED TO DATE ALLOW US TO BUILD THE SHED
PLEASE HELP US RUN THE SHED

Our aim is to build a Men's Shed in Copacabana on the Central Coast of NSW.
·      We have an ageing population.
·      A survey said that the community supports the need for a shed.
·      The design allows community groups to use the social area.
.       We have building consent and sufficient funds to build the shed.
.       Construction will start as soon as Council signs our lease.
.       Funds are still needed to run the Shed.

Please support this worthwhile project.

Copacabana is a beautiful but relatively isolated seaside village, with few opportunities for men to socialise. We also have a larger than average proportion of older and retired men.

We have been trying to establish a men's shed for many years.  A 2017 survey of local residents found that there is a real need and strong support for a men’s shed in the Copa community. In 2018 the charity Copacabana Community Men’s Shed Incorporated was founded and charged with establishing the shed. Since then, a suitable shed has been designed, a site found, development application approved and a construction certificate issued.

Financial support via gofundme, along with the other funds we have raised, will now allow us to make the dream of a men's shed in Copacabana a reality. We will then be the 1100th men's shed in Australia whose aim is to counter the tendency towards isolation in modern life, whether it is the result of unemployment, retirement, bereavement, ill health, disability, age, minority status or pure shyness.

The building has been designed as an attractive feature in the centre of the community:

It will comprise three areas: a workshop, a social area and a mezzanine. The workshop will be the heart of the building, fitted out with benches, cupboards and shelving made by the members themselves. A wide range of woodworking tools and equipment will be sourced, and an acoustically insulated room will be built to house the noisiest machines.

The social area is primarily intended for community groups such as book, quilting and art clubs (not restricted to men!) to meet at times when the workshop is not in session. It will be equipped with a kitchenette, an accessible toilet, storage cupboards and collapsible tables and chairs and will be decorated in such a way that it becomes a comfortable and welcoming meeting place.  The mezzanine will provide a storage space for materials and on-going projects.

The shed will be open to all men aged 18 years or over, including those with disabilities and minority groups. Safety will be managed by appropriate training and supervision.

Please support us generously and help make a difference to men's health and well-being in Copacabana and surrounding suburbs. Any contribution you make will be much appreciated. Contributions of $2 and over are tax-deductible.
