Cooper was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension and ASD in 2015. Previously thought to be asthma his entire life we discovered more symptoms during a routine doctor visit and then confirmed it with a heart cath. This caused his blood oxygen levels to be down in the 70% range, pulse rate down in the 40s.
February of this year he was put on the transplant list to receive a heart-lung block (Heart and bilateral lung transplant). This is a rare surgery with only about 30 per year, we were the 3rd at UAB since 2016 and their 40th since 1991.
Cooper finally got “the call” and has received the organs he so desperately needed! (Please check the organ donor box when you get your license) So congratulations to him on getting the new organs and a new outlook on life! Also, Happy Birthday to Cooper’s new organs! We get to celebrate birthdays twice a year now!
Now on to the helping part. I’m sure you can guess how expensive all of this is going to be. While I’m happy that insurance is covering most of the bill, it won’t pay the whole thing and meds going forward. Bills are rolling in now and accumulating quickly. We’re starting a GoFundMe up to help us cover those expenses. Of course we’re so grateful for any donation you can make and extremely thankful for those of you that have already helped us out along the way so far. For those that prefer a more ‘old school’ method of helping, I can provide you with the billing provider and account number to pay directly.
Cooper is doing awesome in his recovery, He’s worked so hard to do all that the amazing doctors asked him to and more. It’s been a humbling journey for the whole family and we’re happy to be on the other side of the surgery.
If you could, please pass this along so we can reach as many as possible. We’ll take all the help we can get!
