My name is Saiqa Ali and I’m from South London.
I am involved with a charity project that is focussing on humanitarian aid for displaced female Syrian victims of war. I shall personally be accompanying the registered charity, ‘Forgotten Women’, to refugee camps in Rayhanli, near the Syrian border, where I shall be helping their team and volunteers distribute aid.
The recent escalation in fighting in Syria has led to an upsurge of displaced Syrians spilling into refugee camps on the Turkish border with Syria. This has caused a humanitarian catastrophe in an area already crowded with refugees.
I am asking for financial donations so that we can purchase vital supplies locally in Turkey that will be distributed by us on the 9th and 10th of March. Your donations will not be used to fund my travel, accommodation or any other costs but will be spent on vital aid items which we shall distribute directly to the women we meet, living in these camps. We plan to provide a month’s supply of food, personal hygiene products and baby items such as nappies and milk powder.
Ahead of this, on March 6th, along with dozens of women and organisations from all over the globe, Forgotten Women will journey by coach in a convoy from Istanbul, stopping off at cities along the way to highlight the plight of innocent Syrian women caught up in the conflict. The aim is to draw attention to the suffering of women who are being tortured, raped, executed, imprisoned and made refugees since the beginning of the war in Syria; to initiate an attempt to release all female prisoners, girls and women, unlawfully held in Syria; to invite all humanity to take effective measures to protect women during conflicts and wars. Once we arrive in Rayhanli on the 8th, we shall also be listening to and supporting women refugees, including women who have been recently unlawfully detained.
This exercise has been planned to coincide with International Women’s Week and is in conjunction with IHH charity in Turkey. I hope and pray that you can support us in our efforts to help these vulnerable and suffering sisters and donate to my GoFundMe page.
