The mission of this new organization, which I'm calling the Contract Bridge Innovation Alliance (CBIA), will be to provide a playing environment that is a level above that of major bridge organizations. Accomplishing this would entail at least the following:

* Banning players who have been disciplined for engaging in collusive cheating, even if one or more bridge organizations have reinstated such players.

* Permitting innovative systems in bidding and defense, with sufficient advance notice and full disclosure to other competitors.

* Hiring directors who thoroughly understand the Laws of Duplicate, consistently apply them correctly, and are proficient at the game.

Starting up any organization entails many expenses, such as registration with one or more government agencies, telecommunications services, website development, and legal. It seems best to defer spending on such items until one has formulated a detailed plan that identifies contingencies and how to address them.

Timing could be critical. In order to attract a reasonable number of players, the inaugural event would need to be at a time and place that would be convenient for a much larger pool of potential entrants. Being that not many dates meet this criterion, a delay of one month in starting to implement the organization's mission could cascade to a three- or four-month delay of the inaugural event.

This GoFundMe is intended in part to permit me to expend more time per week on this project than I presently can as strictly volunteer. Once it's time to take tangible steps, the bulk of funds raised would be spent on services such as those mentioned above.

I will donate 5% of any funding above the goal to bridgewinners.com--a spectacularly informative bridge website with oodles of great participants.

Thanks for your support!

About Me

I spent more than 15 years as a systems engineer in the telecommunications industry and wrote and self-published several favorably reviewed books and e-books. Both of these activities entailed taking a broad objective, defining it in progressively more detail until it could be implemented, and being able to spot concepts or details that were inconsistent with each other. Starting a new organization requires these skills also, which is why I consider myself well-suited to the task.

For the past 15 years, I have worked primarily as a freelance editor of nonfiction, in which I also draw upon the skills mentioned above.
