<div>Hoy les escribo con el corazón en la mano, porque estoy viviendo una de las experiencias más duras y dolorosas de mi vida: ver a mi abuela desaparecer lentamente… sin moverse del lugar.

<div><strong>Mi abuela se llama Nerida, o como todos la conocemos Bella, </strong>migrante Portuguesa de Algarve - Portugal. Toda mi vida ha sido mi ejemplo de fortaleza, dulzura y sabiduría. Fue como una segunda mamá para mí. Me crió con historias hermosas, recetas que sabía de memoria, canciones que cantaba mientras me peinaba… Pero desde hace un tiempo, su memoria empezó a borrarse. Primero eran cosas pequeñas. Luego, comenzó a confundir los días, los nombres. Ahora, no puede tan siquiera verme.

<div>Hace unos meses le <strong>diagnosticaron demencia vascular en fase 7, la etapa más avanzada.</strong> Y desde entonces, la enfermedad ha progresado de forma devastadora y rápida. Ya no puede hablar, no camina, no se alimenta sin ayuda. Está postrada en una cama y en una silla de ruedas, sin abrir los ojos y con quejidos constantes, como si viviera en un mundo al que ya no podemos llegar.

<div>Y todo esto <strong>lo esta viviendo en Venezuela, un país donde conseguir atención médica es una odisea, donde los hospitales no tienen insumos, y donde un simple medicamento puede costar más que un salario entero. </strong>No tenemos acceso a especialistas, ni terapias adecuadas. Cada día es una lucha para conseguir pañales, alimentos especiales, medicamentos para el dolor, vitaminas, gasas, jeringas, cremas, sabanas limpias, agua potable… cosas básicas que simplemente no tenemos.

<div>Lo que más duele es verla así, sabiendo que lo único que necesita es cuidados dignos, alivio, y amor. No quiero que mi abuela pase sus últimos días entre la angustia y el abandono. Quiero darle lo que se merece: una cama limpia, un cuerpo sin dolor, una caricia, una voz que le diga que no está sola.

<div>Por eso, hoy recurro a ustedes. Sé que tal vez no me conocen, pero si alguna vez han amado a alguien que se enfermó, si alguna vez han querido proteger a quien ya no puede cuidarse por sí mismo, entonces entenderán lo que estoy sintiendo.

<div>Today, I write to you with my heart in my hands, because I’m going through one of the hardest and most painful experiences of my life: watching my grandmother slowly disappear… without even moving.

<div><strong>My grandmother’s name is Nerida, or as everyone calls her, Bella.</strong> She’s a Portuguese migrant from Algarve, Portugal. All my life, she’s been my example of strength, kindness, and wisdom. She was like a second mother to me. She raised me with beautiful stories, recipes she knew by heart, songs she sang while brushing my hair… But some time ago, her memory began to fade. At first, it was little things. Then she started confusing days and names. Now, she can’t even look at me.

<div>A few months ago, she was <strong>diagnosed with stage 7 vascular dementia, the most advanced stage.</strong> Since then, the disease has progressed in a devastating and rapid way. She can no longer speak, can’t walk, and can’t feed herself without help. She is confined to a bed and a wheelchair, eyes closed, constantly groaning — as if she’s living in a world we can no longer reach.

<div>And all of <strong>this is happening in Venezuela, a country where accessing medical care is a daily struggle, where hospitals lack basic supplies, and where a single medication can cost more than an entire monthly salary. We have no access to specialists or proper therapy.</strong> Every day is a battle to find diapers, special foods, pain medications, vitamins, gauze, syringes, creams, clean sheets, potable water… the most basic things we simply don’t have.

<div>What hurts the most is seeing her like this, knowing that all she needs now is dignified care, relief, and love. I don’t want my grandmother to spend her final days in anguish and neglect. I want to give her what she deserves: a clean bed, a pain-free body, a gentle touch, a voice that reminds her she is not alone.

<div>That’s why today, I turn to you. I know you may not know me, but if you’ve ever loved someone who got sick — if you’ve ever wanted to protect someone who could no longer care for themselves — then you’ll understand how I feel.
