Construction of Maryam Sanctuary

An activist and social-worker at heart, for over forty years my mother, Siti, worked with individuals from different backgrounds and orientations. While other people have given up on marginalized individuals, my mother tried to understand their pain by helping them in any way possible. Throughout her life, she would let people live with our family: feeding them, funding their education, and helping them find jobs, so that she could permanently improve their lives. She did all this despite sometimes having to borrow and beg in order to provide for her immediate family and the 2-7 people she was caring for at the same time.

Siti would travel to rural areas through Indonesian rainforests to empower women to stand up for their rights and showcase their skills to become independent and brave enough to leave their abusive relationships. Her faith in humanity allowed her to open her heart and encourage people to fulfill their dreams, despite any and all adversity.

Siti passed on March 18th, 2018 from metastatic lung cancer and was unable to accomplish her lifelong dream of building a place for people of all identity to feel safe and practice their respective religions. In her honor, we are building the Maryam Sanctuary to create a safe space for all people, especially for those who are traveling and in need of a place to pray.  Join us in fulfilling her dream in creating this haven for all of those in need. We are hoping to create the Musalla (a prayer space) in Bekasi (West Java), Indonesia in her name. We hope you can join us to make her dream come true by collecting $7,000 towards constructing this safe haven that will continue to endlessly benefit the community. My siblings and I have purchased the land where the Musalla will be built, but now we need the funds to build it. We hope we could do this with your help!
