Help us build a Monkey Rescue Center in Amazon

Hi there,
My name is Moi, a young Ecuadorian indigenous from the Amazonian Waorani culture.
Together with my friend Fiona (who is from Spain), we want to build a Monkey Rescue Center in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Illegal animal trafficking is a shockingly big industry, and specially in Ecuador it is very common. The result ends up being poor wild animals (usually monkeys, parrots, and macaws) living in tiny flats in cities, wearing human clothes and often being mistreated and malnourished. Every year, Ecuadorian wildlife centers receive so many animals that have been treated like pets that many of the wildlife centers are already full and therefore cannot take anymore animals in.
Our idea is very big and very necessary. Our idea is to return all these animals to where they belong, the Amazon. We have enough room in the jungle to be able to return to all these animals a bit of their wilderness or even to liberate them completely if possible. This more than a social labor it’s a dept we have to all these species for taking them away from their home, their pack and force them to live in a completely unknown world, making them believe they owe our food when they are slaves from a modernity that see them more like expensive ornament than family.
We have this dream, but we need you to make it possible.
All the funds will go strictly to build our veterinarian clinic and our quarantine zone, both of which need to be built with concrete to be able to disinfect correctly. This will make transportation expensive, because it is quite costly to transport these materials to our community in the Amazon, just to get here from the closest city (Puyo) you need 3 buses and 1 canoe!
We are very blessed to have 3 lovely monkeys living with us right now, and we would be extremely happy to see them jumping in the trees with others soon.
We have Cawuia, a 1-and-a-half-year-old howler monkey, who is always hungry and a bit of a whiner and loves cucumber; Wato, a 3-year-old-spider monkey that we rescued two months ago from a family in very bad shape, she is very shy and independent and she loves tomatoes very much and Kawo; a 2-and-a-half-year-old Spider Monkey that has been living with us for more than a year now and is the earthquake of our community—everyone knows her and everyone loves her, but be careful she loves to destroy everything in her path!!!
We have received more than 200 volunteers from more than 50 different countries around the world. And, even if we are very happy to have them and receive their help, this also creates a cost that wouldn’t be so elevate if we were living in the city, like the electricity, drinkable water, a toilet and internet (imagine how much it is to make Wi-fi arrive in the Amazon rainforest!).
More than manpower, our volunteers are voices that help us spread this project. They live the experience and with this they give a voice to all these animals in need so that people outside can hear them and help. Digital platforms like Facebook, Tik Tok and Instagram have made us realize that people donations do work and they do get to where it’s needed, that’s why we would not be able to make this without them.

Somos Moi, joven indígena Waorani del Ecuador y juntamente con la ayuda de mi amiga Fiona (española), queremos empezar con la construcción de un centro de rescate de monos en el corazón de la Amazonia Ecuatoriana.
El tráfico ilegal de animales, especialmente en Ecuador, mueve muchísimo dinero, lo cual genera que animales que pertenecen a la selva acaben en pisos minúsculos en la ciudad, aprendiendo a ser humanos, en muchos casos maltratados y con deficiencias nutricionales.
En Ecuador se reciben multitud de animales decomisados por el ministerio de Ambiente que ya no tienen lugar a donde acudir, muchos centros de rescate están saturados, de manera que el destino de estos animales está escrito en sangre.
Nuestra idea es muy grande y muy necesaria. Queremos devolver a todos estos animales a donde pertenecen, a la Amazonia. Contamos con el espacio suficiente en la selva para poder devolverles a estos animales un poco de su estado salvaje; o inclusive para poderlos liberar completamente. Esto, más que una labor social, es una deuda que como humanos le tenemos a las especies silvestres por alejarlos de su hogar, de su manada y obligarlos a vivir en un mundo desconocido, haciéndoles creer que nos deben la comida y bebida, cuando son esclavos de una modernidad que los ve más como adornos caros, que como familia.
Pero necesitamos de su ayuda para poder saldar esta cuenta y hacer esto una realidad.
Los fondos recaudados van a ir directamente a la construcción de una clínica veterinaria y para la cuarentena, ambos tienen que ser de material que pueda sanitarse correctamente. En este caso sería cemento. Por tanto, su costo incrementa cuando vives en una comunidad dentro de la Amazonia, ya que solo el transporte de materiales hasta el lugar desde la ciudad más cercana requiere de 3 buses y una canoa.
Actualmente contamos con 3 monos a los que queremos más que nada y nos haría muy felices poderles ver saltando por los árboles con otros de su especie. Contamos con Cawuia, un mono aullador de 1 año y medio, goloso y quejica (muere por el pepino), Wato, un mono araña hembra de unos 3 años a quien rescatamos en pésimas condiciones hace un par de meses de una familia, tímida e independiente (¡¡le encanta el tomate!!) y Kawo, otro mono araña hembra de unos 2'5 años que ya hace más de un año que vive con nosotros, es el terremoto de la comunidad, todos la conocen y todos la adoran, eso sí, le encanta destrozar todo lo que encuentra por el camino!!
Ahora hemos tenido la visita de aproximadamente más de 200 voluntarios de más de 50 países del mundo. Y, aunque somos muy felices de tenerlos con nosotros y que nos ayuden en las labores del centro, también esto nos genera gastos que probablemente no serían tan caros si estuviéramos en la ciudad; como es el servicio básico de baño, agua, comida, luz e internet. (imaginen que tan caro es hacer llegar el wifi a la zona Amazonica)
Los voluntarios, más que “mano de obra” nos ayudan a ser voces; voces de este proyecto. Viven la experiencia en vida propia y con esto nos ayudan a dar a conocer la gran problemática que se vive y llevan el grito de ayuda que no pueden dar estas especies a los oídos de la gente que la puede ayudar. Las plataformas digitales como Facebook, Instagram y Tik Tok nos ha permitido comprobar que las donaciones que hacen las personas funcionan y llegan a dónde las necesitan. Es por eso que tampoco nos podemos dar el lujo de prescindir de ellas.
