<div>Ñu’u Ndito es un pequeño grupo de agricultores indígenas en la costa de Oaxaca. Estamos produciendo y conservando algodón nativo de colores en su lugar de origen en parcelas de temporada intercaladas con maíz nativo, mediante prácticas agrícolas regenerativas. Nuestros antepasados han cultivado algodón aquí durante miles de años. Los cinco colores de fibra disponibles actualmente se utilizan para producir textiles hilados y tejidos a mano para artículos para el hogar y ropa, y en el proceso, se preservan las tradiciones culturales.

<div>En todo México, esta especie (Gossypium hirsutum) se ha contaminado con OGM, que son dañinos para los insectos, lo que afecta el medio ambiente circundante y también debilita la resiliencia de las plantas frente al cambio climático. Nos preocupa por el medio ambiente, el algodón nativo y silvestre y nosotros mismos; no queremos perder nuestras semillas heredadas a manos de la corporación dueña de la biotecnología involucrada en la contaminación.

<div>En respuesta, construimos un invernadero para proteger las plantas que dan negativo en las pruebas de OGM, que luego producen semillas limpias. Una vez que tengamos una cantidad significativa de semillas, podremos comenzar a plantarlas en nuestros campos sin correr el riesgo de dañar el medio ambiente y continuar con nuestro linaje de semillas nativas ancestrales.
