Consequences of auto acccident

Donation protected
Steve & Ina have owned and operated their own community business center for almost 3 years now.

In September 2017 Steve was rear ended at high speed by a truck and trailer.

He suffered a cervical spine injury, spinal cord trauma and now has fused vertebrae from C3-C7 plus titanium hardware to stabilize his cervical spine.

This will be a lifetime disability since his neck motion is restricted, causing difficulty driving.

He also suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and PTSD which will take months of cognitive and trauma therapy, rehabilitation and regaining of cognitive function as his brain slowly heals.

He was unable to come to work for 6 weeks following spine surgery as he was wearing a neck brace. This was during the business’s December peak shipping season.

Steve could not drive at all for 8 months and even now is very restricted in where he can travel.

He has only been able to work mornings for the last 10 months.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

Imagine a Mom & Pop business where one partner is operating at 40% of normal capacity and the other partner takes on as much as humanly possible for months.

This has put tremendous emotional, mental, physical and financial strain on the family.

Out of pocket expenses are already $50,000 and the lost sales revenue to the business is even larger, as Steve cannot network with local business and generate new business referrals.

Medical treatment expenses are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. We do not know what the final resolution will be here.

Instead of steadily growing in their 3rd year of business, they have lower sales than the previous year. They had to hire staff to take some workload off Ina despite the lower sales, putting further financial strain on the business.

Remember, this is a retail business. If Ina is exhausted or has a migraine or a cold, she has to carry on regardless. She can’t just close the doors and go home early.

Steve has been an enthusiastic member of the PostNet franchise community since signing on in 2015.

He is Chair of the PostNet National Franchisee Advisory Council, Chair of Technology Committee and Member of the Marketing Committee.

He is giving the benefit of his experience for the greater good, even during these last months while dealing with serious neurological and physical issues.

There is hope that Steve will regain full cognitive function but there will be lifelong consequences and ongoing health costs due to these various injuries.

The McGarel family has worked to extremes to keep their business open but now humbly asks for help as we  move slowly towards normal operation.

They have no fixed financial goal in mind. Current costs are around $50,000 excluding business income losses of close to double that amount.

Steve is fighting his way back to good health but this will take a long time and a lot more medical treatment.
