On Tuesday evening, October 31st a man I consider to be a dear friend suddenly passed away leaving a wife, 4 children, and 4 grand children (1 on the way) behind.
Connous Schaefer was a devoted husband of 20 years. His heart was big and he was a servant to those around him. He regularly put others needs in front of his own.
Not only did he serve those around him but he also served his country in Desert Storm. He was a gentle giant. A man you wanted standing behind you when you were in trouble. A man willing to give his own life for others when called upon.
Most importantly, Connous was a great father. He loved his children and was proud of each of them. He worked hard to provide for them and was active in their lives whether it be Cub Scouts, football practice, or beauty pageants. He was not a quitter and even when things got tough he made it a point to be stronger.
Connous was not able to work the month preceding his death due to illness. His family was also recently the victim of a house fire and they did not carry enough insurance to cover repairs so they had to move in with family. His wife Misti is a stay at home mother with no income of her own and she's had to pay for final costs up front.
