Connor’s California Brain Surgery

Donation protected
Connor Bailey, a 21 year old from Clay County, Alabama and currently an engineering student at Auburn University, was recently diagnosed with a rare brain disease called MoyaMoya Disease
It is a progressive disease that affects the arteries that carry blood to the brain causing them to become more and more narrow, resulting in clinical strokes.
They will eventually close completely. There is no cure, but there is a bypass surgery in which other healthy arteries can be taken from his head and be used to replace the unhealthy ones.

We thank God MoyaMoya was found incidentally after a routine check-up and ultrasound for his thyroid disorder. Some unexpected abnormalities noted during the ultrasound led to him having a CT scan of his head which revealed the narrowing of his arteries. These changes to his brain circulation made it necessary for him to be seen as soon as possible by a neurovascular surgeon at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. There, he had an MRI and two MRAs which confirmed his condition. The neurosurgeon he saw there said that it would be necessary for him to go to Stanford Mecical Center in California for surgery. All of his records were sent to the doctor in California for review. After the Stanford doctor’s review of all his information it was discovered that he had suffered from three small strokes, which thankfully, did not cause any noticeable damage, but to avoid future and more serious strokes, he would need 2 separate Bypass Surgeries on his brain as soon as possible. God allowed this to be found before Connor ever had the first symptom! - which, according to Stanford, is NOT how this type condition typically makes itself known.

He and his mother will be required to stay in California for 3 weeks at the very least.
In addition to the extremely high insurance copays these type surgeries incur (he will have 2), necessary expenses will include round-trip airline tickets from Atlanta to San Francisco, lodging, meals, rental car, compensation for at least a month off of his mother’s job as a public school teacher, and any other unforeseen needs that may be encountered while they are away from home.
Connor would like his dad, younger brother, and sister to be there for his surgeries. This will require plane tickets for them also. They would greatly appreciate anything that you can give and covet your prayers as they face this long, hard journey ahead.
