<div>Op 20-03-2022 vond er een vechtpartij plaats bij de Gele Kanarie in Rotterdam. Eén man besloot tijdens een woordenwisseling een man te slaan en daarna ook zijn vrouw. Toen verschillende omstanders probeerde in te grijpen ontvingen ook zij een paar klappen. Ook Connor greep in. Helaas raakte de veroorzaker door deze ene enkele klap gewond. Waarna het bewusteloze lichaam van de veroorzaker opgetild werd door zijn vriend en vanaf borsthoogte weer laten vallen. De veroorzaker kwam in het ziekenhuis terecht en werd vanaf dat moment het slachtoffer.

<div>Dat was nooit zijn bedoeling. Connor meldde zichzelf direct bij de politie en nam verantwoordelijkheid. Toch zat hij twee en halve week vast, tussen zware criminelen. Dat verandert hoe je naar jezelf kijkt, maar ook hoe anderen jou zien. Sindsdien draagt hij het etiket van ‘dader’. Terwijl hij tot op heden altijd een nette, hardwerkende jongen is, met alles in zich voor een mooie toekomst. Het enige wat nu is veranderd is het toekomstperspectief.

<div>De afgelopen drie jaar stonden in het teken van angst en onzekerheid. Niet wetende wat de uitspraak van de rechter zou gaan zijn. Waar vrienden hun leven voortzetten, stond dat van Connor stil. Het onbezorgde gevoel van vroeger verdween volledig. De Connor van daarvoor is nooit meer teruggekeerd.

<div>Naast de emotionele gevolgen, de rechtszaken, en de taakstraf, is er de financiële last. De schadevergoeding bedraagt een kleine 89.000 euro exclusief rente (107.000 euro inclusief rente) een bedrag dat Connor onmogelijk alleen kan dragen. Zonder hulp betekent dit een schuld die hem jarenlang belemmert: geen mogelijkheid om te sparen, zijn studie af te betalen, samen te wonen of echt vooruit te kijken.

<div>Het standpunt van het hof is dus als volgt. Ook al wil je iets goeds doen en wil in ingrijpen bij nood, niet doen! Het kan je zoals je ziet heel duur komen te staan. Ook al is er geen bewijs dat Connor de verwondingen heeft veroorzaakt, het hof rekent hem dit wel toe.

<div>Deze crowdfunding draait niet om het goedpraten van wat er gebeurd is. Het is uiteraard vreselijk wat is er gebeurd. Connor is wel de laatste om iemand iets slechts toe te wensen. Het gaat nu om perspectief: de kans om een nieuwe start te maken en weer volwaardig mee te doen in de maatschappij.
