Well for the Congo Maternity Clinic

For ten years, a young priest from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Fr. Jean Ikanga, studied in the United States to become a doctor with the intent of returning to his native country. His goal was to develop the medical skills to minister to his people, specifically to the needs of abused and abandoned women in the remote regions of the country. Fr Jean gave up the comforts of the United States to return to a land plagued with political unrest, poverty, and lack of dependable water and electricity. We have established this GoFundMe page to assist him  with construction of a medical clinic in the remote village of Yassa. Last year we completed the first building of the clinic complex, a maternity building. We are now moving into Phase II and changing the focus of our efforts to funding a solar-powered well. The well will not only make the maternity clinic more fully functional, it will also provide clean water for the community and facilitate construction of future clinic buildings. Because of the required depth of the well (about 600'), and its remote location, our first quote for its construction came in at just under$ 60K. We continued our fund raising efforts after the maternity clinic was dedicated and have raised approximately half of those funds so far, but we still need an additional $30K for this Phase II effort. This is reflected in our new GoFundMe goal which was raised from $17K to $47K.
