<div>A broad range of congenital differences of the hand and upper limb exist. They can be isolated or part of a syndrome, caused either by a genetic disorder or by environmental or unknown factors. It is not always possible to identify the specific aetiology of a limb difference. Some hand and upper limb differences cause reduced function requiring surgical intervention, hand therapy and occupational therapy. Children with other concomitant disorders undergo multiple hospital appointments and treatments. Psychological support for the affected children and families may also be needed. There is often a need for multiple interventions on the affected limb and continued medical attention throughout the child's growth. This can be a distressing experience for the child and their family alike, especially as there are only a few surgeons, physicians and therapists specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of these complex disorders. Due to the above, patients and families have often to travel a long way for the specialist care they require.

<div>Mr Lorenzo Garagnani, the coordinator of this fundraising project, is a consultant hand and wrist surgeon currently practising at Guy's and St Thomas' and Evelina Children's hospitals in London. He specialises in the care of congenital hand and upper limb differences and is passionate about the holistic approach and support that these patients and their families require and deserve. In particular, participation in events and activities with other children with limb differences and their families is not only a way to promote confidence but also to encourage the realisation of how much a different limb can actually do and achieve! Reach is the leading charity in the UK providing support for children with an upper limb difference and their families. Their motto is 'Helping children with upper limb differences live life without limits'.

<div>This fundraising campaign is organised by the Italian Medical Society of Great Britain (<a href="https://www.imsogb.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://www.imsogb.org" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.imsogb.org</a></a>), under the auspices of the Embassy of Italy in London.
