Conference fees for Tahlia & Damcho
Tahlia Newland and Damcho Dyson have been invited to speak at the Sakyadhita International Association of Buddhist Women's 16th International Conference (23-28 June 2019) in the Blue Mountains near Sydney Australia. We will deliver a paper with Buddhist Chaplain Jacki Wicks on Sogyal Rinpoche's abuse, it's effect on students, and on the future of Buddhism in the West.
Our paper has been selected as one of only 20 papers to be presented on the theme of New Horizons in Buddhism, so this is a great honour and an opportunity to bring the issue of abuse in Buddhism to members of this large international community set up by Jetsun Tenzin Palmo .
Unfortunately, however, there is no subsidy for those presenting papers and it will cost us AUD $1,153 each ($2306 in total) to attend the full conference and share a room. We can cover our transport costs, but we need help to cover the conference and accommodation fees.
We feel that participating in this conference will be a healing experience and that beneficial and productive discussions /ideas for ways forward might also come out of it. We'll be extremely grateful for any assistance you can provide. In return for your support, we'll share our conference experience with you through words, images and video.
Damcho attended the 2010 conference and found it most beneficial. Can you spot her near the middle of this photo?
