Concert Choir Robes

Niles Senior High Choir Department is in desperate need of several things, including funds, community outreach, and parent involvement. As of now we have made it our commitment and top priority to raise money for new robes. We are being proactive by reassembling the Niles Choir Boosters Club to not only raise money, but to give the community an outlet to get involved.
The Concert Choir robes have not been replaced since the 1960’s. They were purchased for choir by the school, back when the school was able. They no longer have funds for this. I am sure that is not new information for many of you. They are ripping and falling apart. Aside from being dated, the zippers are not functioning well or at all anymore. Our kids deserve to have the proper uniform/attire necessary for their performances. They also need to feel that what they do is considered important by their community.
Matt Hunckler is still the choir director for the high school. He also teaches at Ring Lardner, and East Side Connections. He is in three buildings and works with both elite choirs, not just Counterpoints. I work beside him as the choreographer/assistant teacher for Voices Unlimited at RIng Lardner Middle School. I am happy to be working with him. I am also helping get the boosters club up and running in hopes that we can gain more parent involvement. It is clear that the choir is in need of positive change and attention. The kids are sharp and eager to do their best, as always. We need to do our part to set them up for success. Please consider donating to this cause. The robes cost $130.00 a piece. There are currently 65 kids enrolled in Concert Choir.
Lastly, we would never allow athletes to wear uniforms from 1960. Why should our choir still be doing so. They are an actual academic functioning choir. The kids in concert choir wear these robes four times a year. Mr. Hunckler raises enough money to get them dry cleaned and takes very good care of them. As alumna of NHS Choir, I was shocked that our first boosters meeting, not one person showed up. The choir department needs YOU! Our choir can be just as strong as our community. It can be just as strong as any athletic squad. I know everyone wants to see our choir department alive and well again. Be the change. Please take time to ask how you can help or donate here.
