Dear Corazón Community,
We have a huge dilemma.
Due to the Corona crisis, our hotels in Granada and Oaxaca are virtually closed, and by now we know that international tourism is not expected to pick up before 2021. It means that for quite some time we will not be generating the profits required to make impact
As for our students, they hardly go to school and their schools don’t offer online classes. We still provide for the Corazón Education support programs, such as scholarships and tutoring classes.
We also had to severely cut the salaries of our staff. They receive part of their salary and are covered by health benefits, but it’s barely enough to make a living.
We would love to maintain the support to our students longer and pay
our staff more, but if we would pay for this out of our own reserves, we risk not surviving the crisis. Thus not being able to make the long term social impact we aim for.
That’s why we ask for your support.
With 50 EUR you can supplement the salary of one employee for one week.
With 25 EUR you can pay education support for one student for one month.
We, our students and staff will be very grateful for any contribution that you are able to make.

Meet Moroni, Scarleth, Eli and Lenin
Scarleth is the oldest of 3 siblings. She started our tutoring program in 3rd grade. Because of her motivation and good grades, she earned a Corazón scholarship for a private high school in Granada, where she finished her high school. In this way she became an inspiration for her family since she is the only one in her extended family that has achieved this educational level. Currently she has a Corazón university scholarship and studies Accounting and Finance.
This is Moroni, one of our scholarship students in Oaxaca. He was selected for our our education program because of his motivation and potential. Moroni lives on the countryside with his parents and siblings. He himself saved money for years, to be able to attend high school in Oaxaca. We support him financially to fulfill his dream. We know that his intelligence, perseverance and eagerness will surely get him where he wants to be!
Eli is a little busy bee, always running around, making sure our hotel in Oaxaca looks impeccable. Eli has been with us from the opening of the hotel in 2018. She is our Queen of Cleaning. We admire her for her infinite work ethic and ever-positive attitude. Thanks to her and her colleagues of the cleaning team, our guests have been giving us the best review scores on cleanliness! Eli has a family of 5 to feed, plus a few dogs that guard her house in a small village close to the city.
Lenin is our longest serving employee at Con Corazón. He joined the hotel in Granada shortly after it opened in 2008. For 10 years he made sure the hotel was safe at night. Since Nicaragua was hit by political issues in 2018 and the hotel was going through tough times, he has proven his commitment even more. He has discovered a passion and talent for cooking, and through training he has become a very versatile member of our Nica Corazón Team.
