Hi, my name is Antoine Grelin and I take pictures of space. With my wife Dalia we create useful content for beginner astrophotographers on our website and YouTube channel "Galactic Hunter". See some images here: https://www.galactic-hunter.com/gallery
I decided to create this GoFundMe because after almost 10 years in this hobby, it is now time to make a dream come true: Setting up a remote telescope rig under very dark skies in the desert. This will allow us to take pictures of space almost every night of the year from the comfort of home.
This will not only help get more awesome space pictures, it will also help create new content for the website and videos.
Now here comes the "waterworks" section:
This equipment needed for this dream project was supposed to be ready this year, but 2022 has been absolutely terrible financially.
On the third day of the year, my heart started acting crazy. It got worse and I spent a night at the ER. I had to go to the cardiologist so many times throughout the year. The bills added up quickly, and on top of that, I had to get a heart ablation to fix my heart. Of course, that didn't work, and now I might need to have a second surgery. For the first time of my life I have a ton of medical debts, but I don't want this to stop me from making this dream happen.
The original cost for this project was $59,795 and would have covered a professional-grade setup. I don't think it is fair for me to ask for this much money, so I did my best to cut down on the cost as much as possible. Instead of buying a whole new rig, I will be sending almost my entire own "backyard" equipment there. Despite that, I am still missing a few important parts, like high-quality filters, and the monochrome camera as I cannot send the one I am using at home.
We have done a successful fundraiser in the past, and were able to get more than $11K. That fundraiser was to clean Charles Messier (a famous astronomer)'s decaying grave for the next ~30 years. 100% of the money for that fundraiser is going to the cemetery cleaning company.
Please contribute to this project if you would like to see more beautiful space images!
