Typically, the end of a school year for a teacher is bittersweet. Unfortunately, Taquata Whittaker, a single mother of four and special education teacher at a CPS school, spent the last few months at Children's Hospital watching over her oldest child, La'nay. She had a medical emergency and put up a brave fight. On May 23, I received a call as I was moving my things to our new school. La'nay had earned her wings at the young age of 20.
As parents, we don't expect to bury our children. When I asked Taquata what I can do to help, she said, "I just want to bury my baby." I would love to make this possible. If you are able to donate to this cause, it would be greatly appreciated.
