Compassion for Kristina

Meet Kristina Romolino - a fierce friend with a wonderfully optimistic spirit—Kristina is a lover and a fighter- she’s a strong single mother of a beautiful young lady, and worked for her local Police Department in Clover, SC before relocating to Virginia in 2006, where she now resides with her beautiful daughter, Emma.

On July 31, 2017, Kristina was diagnosed with Stage 3a Advanced Breast Cancer.

Stage 3 means the breast cancer has extended to beyond the immediate region of the tumor and may have invaded nearby lymph nodes and muscles- Kristina has had 16 lymph nodes removed to-date, (5 tested positive for cancer) combined with a double mastectomy (simple left breast mastectomy and a right breast radical mastectomy, meaning all breast tissue, surrounding lymph nodes, and chest wall muscles were removed.)

After 3 biopsies, several CT scans, 2 MRI’s, multiple mammograms and ultrasounds, and 5 months of chemotherapy, Kristina is in recovery for 6 weeks before beginning her next step in treatment- 7 weeks of radiation, (5 times a week) a daily dose of Tamoxifen (a cancerous growth suppressant) for the next 5 years, 1 year of Herceptin treatments, (an aggressive monoclonal antibody infusion) and 2-3 reconstructive surgeries.

Due to the questionable classification of breast cancer, Kristina has been denied disability benefits and is unable to continue working due to her aggressive treatments- each chemotherapy session costs $50k alone, with additional astronomical expenses for radiation, various pharmaceutical and medical expenses, and loss of income due to Kristina’s inability to work.

During her diagnosis and treatment, Kristina has stayed upbeat and positive, maintaining a determination and dedication to fighting her diagnosis that’s truly inspirational.  But now, as friends, family, and even people who have never met Kristina, we are asking you to help us lift this burden off her chest. We need help in alleviating the financial burden coming to Kristina during her fight through breast cancer.

We want her to be able to focus on Emma, and living, instead of crying, worrying, speculating, and wishing.  We thank you all for any support you can give. We realize not everyone can afford to chip in with cash, but positive words of encouragement cost nothing, and mean everything.
