<div>You may know some of us or all of us (or none of us) but we are Aurora, Jeanne, Marta, Caitlin and Solène, also known as Compagnie Frères, a young international bilingual theatre company - we are are working on our new show Mal de mer (seasick) and we need your help to take it to London for the Voilà! Theatre Festival this November.

<div>We all came from different corners of the world: Norway, the UK, France, Italy and Ireland, and we have been brought together by:

<li>a shared love of telling inventive and visual stories

<li>being very very silly

<li>fish (more on that later)

<div>Now we make work together that is inspired by fieldwork and fantasy, humour and tragedy, and takes a stab at trying to understand what it means to be alive in the world today. The question that underpins all our work is: “comment vivre ensemble” (how do we live together)?

<div>What is the show

<div>Multiple fishermen, 2025 (but probably many times before that)

<div>Mal de Mer (seasick) grew from a series of encounters with working and retired fishermen in Marseille, Madragues and Carro. Over a few months of getting to know each other (and several very early morning trips out to sea), they told us the story of their trade; how it has boomed and bust within their lifetimes; how disappointed they are that there doesn’t seem to be a next generation of fishermen waiting to step into their waterproof boots.

<div>These sentiments have interwoven with inspiration from myth, Homer’s Odyssey and our love of the absurd, into a show that is about the sea; its pull, its promise, and its plundered depths. It’s about our different generations and how we feel about each other, about work, about imminent ecological collapse. It’s a show about when to hold on and how to let go in an ever-sinking world.

<div>What is the opportunity
</div>
<div>We’ve been accepted to debut our show at Voila! Festival, a pan-lingual European theatre Festival in London this November. This festival gives us the unique opportunity to play in French in the UK and bring our work to a completely new audience, opening all sorts of exciting doors for the future. But as you know financing all of this is difficult, and as we aren’t millionaires we are asking for your help. Anything you can afford the price of a pint or cup of coffee can go a long way! We love doing this work so much but even without paying ourselves a penny, sleeping on floors and calling in every favour under the earth (which rest assured we’re doing!), playing in the UK will cost hundreds in travel and festival registration fees.

<div>Any donation you can give us, however small, will help us to get to London! £5 will pay for a tube journey between our accommodation and the venue, £50 will cover a flight and £500 will make all our dreams come true. If you can’t help us out financially, sharing this on your socials (or even better, sending it to your wealthy, theatre-loving aunt with a personal recommendation) would be the next best thing.

<div>Mal de Mer est né d'une série de rencontres avec des pêcheurs actifs et retraités à Marseille, Madragues et Carro. Après quelques mois passés à faire connaissance (et plusieurs sorties en mer très tôt le matin), ils nous ont raconté l'histoire de leur métier, les hauts et les bas au cours de leur vie, leur déception de voir qu'il n'y a pas de nouvelle génération de pêcheurs prête à prendre la relève.

<div>Ces rencontres se sont mêlées à l'inspiration des mythes, de l'Odyssée d'Homère et à notre amour pour l'absurde, pour donner naissance à un spectacle qui parle de la mer, de son attrait, de ses promesses et de ses profondeurs pillées. Il s'agit de nos différentes générations et de ce que nous ressentons les uns envers les autres, à propos du travail et de l'imminence d'un effondrement écologique. C'est un spectacle sur le moment où il faut s'accrocher et où il faut lâcher prise dans un monde qui ne cesse de sombrer.

<div>Quelle est cette opportunité ?
</div>
<div>Nous avons été acceptées pour présenter notre spectacle au festival Voila ! Festival, un festival de théâtre européen multilingue qui se tiendra à Londres en novembre. Ce festival nous donne l'occasion unique de jouer en français au Royaume-Uni et de faire connaître notre travail à un tout nouveau public, ce qui nous ouvre toutes sortes de portes passionnantes pour l'avenir. Mais comme vous le savez, il est difficile de financer tout cela, et comme nous ne sommes pas millionnaires, nous vous demandons votre aide. Tout ce que vous pouvez offrir, le prix d'une pinte ou d'une tasse de café, peut faire beaucoup ! Nous aimons tellement faire ce travail, mais même sans nous payer un rond, en dormant par terre et en demandant toutes les faveurs du monde (ce que nous faisons, soyez-en sûrs !), jouer au Royaume-Uni nous coûtera des centaines d'euros en frais de voyage et d'inscription à ce festival.
