Help Us Support My Parents After 42 Years of Serving Our Community
After the fall of Saigon, my parents came to America with hope in their hearts and little more than the clothes on their backs. Like so many others, they left everything behind in search of safety, freedom, and the chance to build a better life. They landed in St. Louis with no money, no English, and no roadmap—just determination and an unshakable belief in hard work and kindness.
They eventually opened a small Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant in Webster Groves, Missouri—a place that would become their life’s work and a beloved part of the community for the next 42 years. Through long days, countless meals, and quiet sacrifices, they built something special. Their restaurant was never just about food—it was about family, community, and the American dream they worked tirelessly to realize.
Recently, our world turned upside down.
My mother suffered a serious fall down the stairs and broke her heel. Her recovery will take at least 20 weeks, and she will be unable to return to the physically demanding work of running the restaurant. With both of my parents already stretched thin, this injury has left us with no choice but to close the restaurant forever.
It’s a heartbreaking end to something that has meant so much to so many.
Now we are facing not only the emotional loss of a lifetime of work, but also the burden of medical bills, the cost of paying out the remaining lease, and the challenge of helping my parents step into the next phase of life—with limited resources, at a time they hoped to begin slowing down.
We’re reaching out in the spirit of community, kindness, and gratitude—to ask for help. Whether it’s $5 or $500, every contribution will help cover urgent expenses and offer my parents a stepping stone as they transition into a new chapter.
They came to this country seeking a chance. For 42 years, they gave everything they had to serve others. We’re now humbly asking if the community they’ve loved and served might lift them up in return.
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you. For your support, your generosity, and for being part of our story.
With love and deep gratitude,
The Nguyen’s
