Hurricane Relief For Community Home

Donation protected
We are a single dwelling family of 8 adults and 5 children, who have just fallen victim to Hurrican Harvey. You never expect to be one of the affected ones that you see on TV, but at 3:00 AM on August 28th, we were forced to evacuate our home. If you've never been forced out of your home, let me tell you, it is a highly emotional experience.

We live in Huffman, TX right across the street from Luce Bayou. As water from across the state to our east drained into Lake Houston, the spillway of Lake Houston could not evacuate the influx of water quick enough. The bayou rose from within its banks on Sunday morning, to stretching fully across our neighborhood by nightfall. By 1:00 AM water was in our home, and by 3:00 AM we decided to evacuate mainly because of our small children.

Currently, we are staying with relatives. There are 22 of us crammed into a four bedroom house with one five-seater car, and while we do have a support system to help us through the immediate aftermath, we know that cleaning up and repairing the damage to our home will take quite some time.

The business that sustains our household is a family owned and operated home remodeling business. The first struggle we foresee is losing time at work. We only get paid when we work, and it is unclear when we will be able to return to the jobs we have open. Further, we will need funds to cover the renovation of our own home, and living costs during that operation. The good news is that that with our skill sets and combined manpower, we can accomplish the remodel without hiring too much outside labor, thus saving on costs.

For our large household, who is trying to live an alternative lifestyle of intense community, your support as we get back on our feet would be immensely and eternally appreciated. We would be able to restore our home to a livable condition more quickly with more funds. This is especially important to us right now, as the oldest grandchild is starting kindergarten very soon. (Actually, she was supposed to start the day of our evacuation, but school for the area was obviously postponed.)

We do expect to receive flood insurance money at some point, but we have no idea how long that could take, or if it will truly be enough to restore our home. If we could receive your contribution then we can get back in our home sooner.

Again, if you can contribute to our hurricane relief, we would be eternally grateful. If you can't swing a donation right now, we understand, but please keep our family in your prayers, especially that the water does not continue to rise in our home. Of course, the whole area can use prayer and support. Thanks for your consideration.
