Guiding Vision into Action:
Empowering Detroit’s Youth to Enrich their Community through maker-space projects that develop self-reliance and a solutions oriented approach to social entrepreneurship within their local community and environment.

Our organization has focused our efforts towards Detroit’s youth, specifically in and around the Detroit Community High School in the city’s Brightmoor neighborhood. Through hands on work, the participants create a meaningful connection between purpose and place as they’re given freedom to explore their own individual spirit and develop their will.

As emerging leaders, our youth are given an opportunity to manifest their understanding of ‘place’ and ‘purpose’ while learning what it takes to “Think Globally; Act Locally!"

We have multiple partners with whom we collaborate to raise funding support for our year-round programs. They are: Detroit Community Schools, University of Michigan Stamps School of Art and Design, the City of Detroit Grow Detroit’s Young Talent program and the Malama Foundation. They help us offset instructional costs and secure supplies and materials for program operations. Their services are both ‘in-kind’ and financial, but the Sunbridge International Collaborative is the primary funder for the Brightmoor Makers program.

The Sunbridge International Collaborative has both current and future needs for funding. The current needs represent stipends of $25 per session that will compensate our youth participants for their efforts. In the past, we have relied on local support to supply the stipend monies, however this year there was a 40% reduction in available funds and we are facing a shortfall that threatens the viability of our programs.

Our goal is to continue this work now and to expand our efforts in the near future.  For the past ten years, we've witnessed the power of this work to creatively awaken the hearts and minds of our young people while simultaneously transforming the surrounding community environment within which they live.

We invite you to join us in empowering Detroit's youth and in providing them with the platform, resources and overall support to enrich our shared community!

Thank you for your support and please check out our Social channels for regular updates throughout the campaign!

With Gratitude,
Bart Eddy and the Brightmoor Makers
