Community Support for RISE

This past week, we had to make the tough decision to temporarily close our doors at RISE. We had many factors to consider: the health and safety of our employees and ourselves, the financial burden we would be placing on our employees, the lack of income for ourselves, the need for bread in our community during this pandemic, and many more. Bob and I really struggled with this night after night, staying up and reading news articles, taking in the information and numbers from China and Italy, while watching the impact of the virus start to affect the United States. Questioning;  How will our employees survive? How will we survive as a business and personally? One day this week several employees came to me and said, "Annie, we will be okay. We are worried about you and about RISE. If you have to close we understand". I feel like this was the support I needed to do the right thing and place health first and finances second.

While we would love to reopen when there is no longer a health threat to our community, this depends on us being able to pay some of our fixed expenses while we are closed. We have been humbled by so may wonderful people in our community reaching out to ask "how can we help RISE during COVID-19?" We have been so very grateful to everyone who has purchased from us (ever) but especially over the past week, those who have tipped generously, and those who have donated for school lunches. Thank you.

What do we need help with and what would we use donations for?
First, and most importantly, we would like to keep providing school lunches to students twice a week. Food security is so important to the DeCoteau family and to be able to continue this program would mean the world to us and would be impactful to many families struggling right now. Secondly, we need to continue to pay fixed expenses during our closure. This includes, rent, utilities, monthly subscription costs, and loan payments. As long as we can continue to pay our fixed expenses we will be able to re-open our doors once the risk of COVID-19 has passed.

Berthoud is our home and this community is our family. Your continued support means the world to us. We would love to be able to continue to feed our community family, and remain a vibrant part of this great town. Thank you for taking the time to read this and look forward to seeing you all again soon. #SmallBusinessRelief

Much love,
