We are 'R.O.O.T.S' St. Pauls' Table Tennis Club, a newly formed Table Tennis Club based in St. Paul's, Bristol. We are a mixed-age team of 6 Table Tennis founders over-fifties. One of our members, John-T is 77 years young; he has Ankylosing Spondylitis, can not walk without the aid of a Zimmer Frame or walking stick, yet he plays and does his best to keep fit. Together we also teach young people of 7-16 years the art of Ping Pong under the name Community Roots.
For over three years we have been working with young people of Easton and St Pauls at Felix Road Adventure Playground and Docklands Youth Centre. We get to hire the community space at a discounted price, although if someone wishes to hire the space at full price then we don't get to run the club for the local Table Tennis local children.
We are so passionate about Table Tennis that we decided to put together a team to enter Bristol table tennis lague. Our team and club attendees is growing so we've realised that there is a real interest for the sport in the area. 'R.O.O.T.S' St. Pauls' Table Tennis Club has recently entered two teams into the Bristol & District Table Tennis Association league. We have played 12 games and won 12. We started in division 7 and have beaten teams in the 4th & 3th division as part of a separate cup competition (Mordecai Cup just two more games and we could be in the finals). As you can imagine, this is a great achievement for us, as we never expected to do so well the first time competing as teams!
We'd like to get some help raising funds to help us get better established and would love to be able to provide our own sports equipment (the equipment that we currently use is old and limited), team kits (for pro-tournaments), transportation cost to tournaments and to cover event space hire for the next 12 months (to guarantee we have a space for home and away league games plus practice and club sessions). We will also be running sponsored Table Tennis foundraiser alongside The Loop, Ping Pong Parler and Table Tennis England in order to help us in our quest to getting established as a club.
This Marathon `Ping Pong` Challenge and Fundrasing Days Event, will be spread over three days. Starting on Wednesday, 11th and Thursday 12th December with a eight hour session 10am - 6pm then Thursday 10am - 6pm at the Ping Pong Palour in the Galleries in Broadmead shpping center Bristol.
Ending Friday the 13th at the Docklands Settlment` St Pauls. 10am - 6pm. This will be follow by prize giving, awards and entertainment (live music and sound system). With food and refreshments for sale at affordable prices.
