Community organizer and Mother being evicted

Donation protected
Hi my name is Crystal Sanchez and I am the Western Regional director for the National Union of the Homeless and the president of the Sacramento Homeless Union. Everyday I work in encampments and see the realities of homelessness and why people are there.

Today I am starting a GoFundMe for myself my daughter and my oldest son. After taking care of my grandmother for seven long years so that she could die peacefully in her home, she passed away in March 2022. At this time I also lost my job. Due to some manipulation around the will my sister inherited the house that we currently live in. I do not want to fight her legally for the house even though the attorney that has been obtained for this eviction believes I should as well as many Community leaders who are in disbelief that she would do this.

On November 3rd I received exciting news that I would be starting with the County of Sacramento and behavioral Health on November the 21st to be a behavioral Health Peer Specialist. My daughter and I went out to dinner to celebrate and when I came home there was a 60-day eviction notice on the door. This was completely out of the blue and I didn't even know it was coming. I have since spoke to my sister who is the owner of the house and her reasoning for evicting myself and my nine-year-old daughter is for her own wellness. So not only is this devastating to us our wellness and housing situation is now being displaced potentially to the streets.

We are trying to raise $5,000+ for a deposit to move into another place. I don't even want to have to do this but unfortunately we are not in a situation where we can afford a deposit in 60 days.

As somebody who organizes with thousands of unhoused individuals who fights for policy and housing now facing this eviction has brought a real fear that I will end up on the streets like the folks that I work with. I know what that struggle looks like I also know what the lack of resources in Sacramento look like.

Anything we raise over the $5,000 will go directly to the organizations that I run which includes the Sacramento Homeless Union, and Sac SOUP which is a 501c3 nonprofit that stands for Sacramento Solidarity of Unhoused People. Please share this on all of your social medias and know that I appreciate all of you even if you cannot help out!
