Community Mosaic Mural @ Finney Sch

Our School:
I have the privilege of teaching visual arts at Finney Elementary School, near the border in South San Diego. Finney is an amazing place to work - I have a unique group of around 350 enthusiastic students. We are a Title I school with 97% diversity and a very tight budget, but we won't let that slow us down! My goal is to bring an incredible art opportunity to these children who typically only experience art within my classroom.
Our Project:
I would like to partner with San Diego Artist Rob Tobin and the non-profit A Reason to Survive (ARTS) to create a community mosaic mural at Finney Elementary School. Tobin will guide the students, parents, and staff at Finney Elementary School in the enlightening process of creating this lasting gift to our school. We will awaken creativity in this diverse community as they transform our plain school building into a bright creative space where student artists thrive.
Our Artist:
Our partnering artist Rob Tobin has constructed 20+ community murals throughout San Diego County. We include here photos of his incredible work, more of which are available at www.artistrobtobin.com. Tobin has transformed plain school buildings and city walls into breathtaking, glittering gifts to the community.
Our Funds:
$1,500 - This will be used for supplies and materials including tile, adhesive, grout, clay, glaze, and paint.
$1,000 - Partnering with the non-profit A Reason to Survive (ARTS) gives us access to additional tools and equipment needed to create custom tiles. ARTS will also provide high school student interns, who will help behind the scenes and during the installation.
$4,500 - We wish to pay our artist, Rob Tobin a decent wage for his hard work and long hours. Tobin is incredibly talented, and we could not succeed without his guidance. If we have more to give him we will!
If there are additional funds they will be put towards future community mural projects in the Chula Vista Elementary School District.

The students at Finney and I appreciate your donations with all our hearts. We welcome any interested donors to participate in part of the project. Please leave an email address and a message if you are interested in a small number of project updates. The mosaic mural installation process will be a weekend event that is open to interested donors and community members. We give special thanks to the family and friends of Chris Frechette, and we give honor to his memory.
