Community Love Offering for Bernice

On September 25, Bernice Heidelberg received unexpected news that her husband Tom was being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Further testing revealed that it was stage 4 and had metastasized to his liver. Due to the severity and aggressive nature of this cancer and his current medical condition, treatment was not an option. Hospice was able to assist Bernice in making Tom more comfortable in their home. Thanks to a conversation that Tom had, with someone very special to him, he approached his situation with a winning attitude…It’s a win – win situation. If he gets to stay with his wife and family, he wins. If he goes home to his Heavenly Father, he wins. On October 20, 2017, Tom won, he is now with his Heavenly Father.

 After Bernice was told that Tom’s health would decline quickly and knowing he needed around the clock care, Bernice took a leave of absence to be with him. She was thankful that she was able to spend these last days with him. However, this also meant a loss of wages for Bernice, as well as Tom’s accrued medical bills and now impending funeral costs. A financial burden has been placed on Bernice.

 Through this Go Fund Me page, we are trying to help Bernice overcome these monetary worries. For many years Bernice has held multiple positions on our Whiteford Township board. She has been the Director of both the Preschool and Latchkey programs at Whiteford Agricultural School and Whiteford Wesleyan Church and has donated her time to the community in other capacities. She was active in the XYZ Club for seniors, Whiteford Red., the C.L.A.W.S. reading program and is currently involved in the Bobcat Quilters group and the Whiteford Community Association. She has touched the lives of the members of this community from young to old. Let’s come together to show our thanks and support to this dedicated and deserving woman.
