Advocates for Community Wellness (A4CW) is a grassroots organization that promotes holistic wellness with the education of healthy lifestyles, fitness, and proper nutrition. Since it’s inception, Advocates for Community Wellness has been driven to help underserved communities identify risk factors linked to chronic diseases, raise mental health awareness and promote early health and cancer screenings within the Chicago Metropolitan Area. By taking a holistic approach to wellness and empowering people at the community level, we play an active role in maintaining, sustaining and restoring good health in body, mind, and spirit.
When the executive director established the organization in 2003, she was deeply motivated by the lack of health knowledge her community had regarding chronic disease. After witnessing a prominent leader who was undiagnosed with diabetes tragically die from complications, she promptly took action and started the organization to educate others on the importance of healthy lifestyles.
Each year A4CW holds several outreach events to inform the lay public about the impact that diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity related diseases can have on families, work place, and communities. It also encourages cancer screenings for breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. This year upcoming year for 2109, Advocates strive to raise money to host free events such as Wellness Forums, Hands-on Cooking Classes, Cancer Awareness Workshops, and Diabetes Support Groups in undersereved/low income communities.
Your donation will help to cover the cost to purchase items for health screenings, fitness classes, wellness workshops, hands on cooking classes and more. With your help we can continue to provide these services free of charge to underserved communities in need.
