Community Fundraiser for Bicycle Awareness

Local businesses in Brooklyn's #SunsetPark have come together to raise bicycle awareness in force through a community fundraiser.
Nineteen bicycle riders were killed this year due to car collisions.
74% of those deaths occurred in Brooklyn.
On Sunday, August 18th, owners of L'Wren, Judy's, Minnie's Bar, Sunset Park BID, Industry City and it's tenants will raise funds and wave over 400 neon pink flags as symbol of unity and statement of urgency to end preventable fatalities due to car crashes.
The proceeds from Sunset Park's community effort and this gofundme site will go to Get Women Cycling.
Get Women Cycling, a bicycle commuting program born in #SunsetPark, has created a strategic initiative to address street safety and the changing landscape of daily city commuting for all New Yorkers.
It's facilitators provide Commuter Awareness Outreach (CAO) sessions in the NYS mandated 5-hour pre-licensing class and in the Point and Insurance Reduction Program at a hand-full of local driving schools in Queens and Brooklyn.
The money raised through this collaborative effort will be used to start a facilitator training program this Fall so that Get Women Cycling can continue to grow commuter awareness, initiate conversations around current perceptions and behaviors toward street safety, share best practice techniques for safe commuting regardless of transportation choice, and double its presence in Brooklyn driving schools by year's end.
Between Jan. 1 and June 30th of this year there were 1, 433 car crashes in Sunset Park alone killing 4 and injuring hundreds of people walking, riding bicycles, and in cars. That's nearly 8 crashes every 2 days.
We would greatly appreciate your help to raise awareness and increase education in neighborhood driving schools. The safety of our streets and the lives of our loved ones is ours to control.
