<div>Through my family’s connection to an NGO serving Indigenous communities in Peru, I’ve learned about a recurring challenge in some remote communities: reliable communications where cellular service isn’t available.

<div>I leave for Peru on September 27, and I want to use this opportunity to learn more about the problem firsthand and conduct limited, locally coordinated field testing.

<div>I’m interested in whether low-power technologies such as LoRa can complement existing HF, satellite, cellular, and Internet systems, but I’m not assuming LoRa is the answer.

<div><strong>The goal is simple: listen, measure, and find out what actually works.</strong>

<div><strong>Why $1,300?</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>I’m raising <strong>$1,300 as the initial funding goal</strong> for this assessment.

<div>I’m intentionally keeping the first phase small. This is a feasibility and learning mission, not an attempt to fund a complete communications deployment.

<div>The $1,300 represents a working budget for project-specific expenses such as:

<li><strong>$400</strong> — LoRa radios, antennas and field-testing equipment
</li>
<li><strong>$250</strong> — Batteries, solar power and weatherproofing

<li><strong>$250</strong> — Transportation and local field expenses

<li><strong>$200</strong> — Local guides, translation and technical assistance
</li>
<li><strong>$100</strong> — Documentation and miscellaneous field expenses

<li><strong>$100</strong> — Contingency for unexpected project-related expenses

<div>These are working estimates rather than fixed commitments. Actual expenses may vary, and I’ll prioritize the equipment and activities that provide the most useful information during the assessment.

<div>GoFundMe transaction fees are deducted from donations, so the amount ultimately available for project expenses will be somewhat less than the amount raised. I’ll account for those fees separately in the project records.

<div>The assessment will focus on understanding the communications problem before deciding whether a larger project is justified.

<li>Document what works, what doesn't, and what remains unknown

<div>If the assessment shows that a formal pilot makes sense, I’ll use what we learn to develop <strong>Community Frequency </strong>into a larger, community-led project and seek appropriate nonprofit or fiscal sponsorship.

<div>If additional funds are raised beyond the initial $1,300 goal, I’ll use them for additional project-related needs within the scope of the assessment or its documentation, and I’ll explain significant changes or expanded activities through campaign updates.
