Community Christmas Lights

CORFE MULLEN CARNIVAL - COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Last year your carnival committee organised our first community Christmas tree with lighting. Supported by business sponsors and also with assistance from the local council towards ensuring the power supply was up to modern standards.

This year we are aiming to incorporate backlighting on the trees behind (see computer generated image). This is a major project and, as such, comes at a significant cost. Whilst we do have a number of financial pledges, we are looking for more corporate and private sponsorship. If you would like to help this community initiative, please do make contact.

We have also set up a justgiving page, so any individual’s who would like to make a donation can.

Background;

After considerable market research we have concluded that a specialist festive lighting company will provide the most affordable and professional display this year. This company holds all of the required insurances, certification and employ fully trained and competent staff and currently provide the festive light displays at a number of local towns, including Ferndown.

Our proposal for this year includes:
Provision of a free standing Christmas tree exactly the same as last year.
Subject to the level of financial support received, we intend to install background lighting within four trees that sit behind the Christmas tree, see attached images of the actual site
Provide a banner located adjacent the tree to promote the support of local businesses

This year, again subject to funding, we propose to purchase the lights rather than hire them. Whilst this gives us an initial high capital cost it is the most equitable long term solution to enable us to build on the size of the display each year.

We have obtained various options to provide tree wrap led lighting to the four trees behind the Christmas tree and each option can be extended in future years with additional lights if required.
Option A, to purchase the maximum display of 4000 led lights per tree (similar to the image provided) and to provide the relevant insurances
Option B as option A but reduced to 3300 lights per tree.

We have currently secured sponsorship from a number of local businesses and the Carnival is currently pledging funds from its reserves, as there was no Carnival income this year.

Currently, option A leaves us with a shortfall of £4947 and option B a shortfall of £2982.

Conclusion:

Based upon the above we are asking businesses and individuals to please consider making a financial contribution to support this years Carnival festive light display.

Unfortunately due to the length of time it has taken for the various contractors to confirm their cost to us, we will need to confirm our order with the specialist company by the end of this week to ensure the lights are installed by the 21st November.

Last year the feedback that was received from the community was overwhelmingly positive and as we have all suffered the impact of Covid-19, the Carnival's proposals will bring some welcome festive cheer to the residents of Corfe Mullen and those passing through.
