What Is CARP?
Community Action Relief Project (CARP) is a mutual aid project committed to sharing resources and redistributing wealth throughout the Kensington community and Philadelphia. In the words of Kropotkin, “We must recognize, and loudly proclaim, that every one, whatever his grade in the old society… has, before everything, THE RIGHT TO LIVE, and that society is bound to share amongst all, without exception, the means of existence it has at its disposal”
We do so by following the leadership of those receiving our resources; all of our projects come from community members’ suggestions and ideas. Currently, we table outside our office on Kensington and Lehigh twice a week. During tabling, we hand out essential hygiene supplies, hot food, and snacks, offer a phone charging station and first aid care, and host a small radical library. We also make grocery deliveries to households across the city and offer personalized assistance like help finding housing or applying for benefits.
Another important aspect of our project is sharing knowledge. We hold weekly political education sessions open to all in which we learn from each other. Past sessions have covered incarceration and the prison-industrial complex, colonialism, left political history, and Black revolutionary politics.
The fund goal stated in this gofundme reflects the amount our other funding will fall short on providing through the 2021 year, your contributions will allow us to better serve our community by being able to provide more in our hygiene bags, to bolster our sustained support program, and to allow us access to supplies we need to best meet the needs of our neighbors here so we can mutually grow, learn, and create class solidarity in a meaningful way. 1:00-2:30: hot food distribution
Every Sunday:
1:00-2:00: supply and hygiene pack handout
