Hi all. My name is Tom Hoffmann and I'm a self-funded fencer from the Scottish Highlands. I've been fencing for the best part of 15 years starting at Dingwall Fencing Club. During that time I have won ten national titles - 9 Scottish and Scottish Schools Under 20 titles and the 2015 Scottish Universities Championship; 6 Senior Open titles and represented Great Britain 8 times at international level.

In 2014 at the age of 18, I competed at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Largs, Glasgow. Even though I was the least experienced Scottish fencer I finished top Scot in the Men's Epee and a respectable 14th. As a team we managed to overcome some tough opponents beating the favoured England team in the semi-final to receive a bronze medal in front of our home crowd, which was an incredible experience.

This year I have been selected to represent Scotland at the 2018 Commonwealth Fencing Championships held in Canberra, Australia. With two strong new additions to our team we have a great chance of surpassing our previous result.
Although it's a huge achievement to be selected to represent your country at international level it does come at some cost. Due to there being no funding from our governing body we are having to pay for the trip ourselves - this includes flights (£800); accommodation (£400); kit (£600); and national tracksuits (£200). This is the first and only time I will apply for Crowdfunding, so any contribution received would be greatly appreciated.
