Commission masks from performers!
Donation protected
The unfolding medical emergency across the world has impacted all of us in different ways - some of us are fortunate to still have our health and income, while others are struggling with the loss of one or both.
Those in the performing arts, of course, have been hit hard.
At the same time, PPE (personal protective equipment) such as face masks have been running out for the medical professionals on the front lines of fighting the spread of infection and keeping us safe and alive.
What if we could help address both problems at once?
Hospitals have put out calls for the public to sew homemade masks for healthcare workers. Homemade masks should only be used alone as a last resort (per CDC recommendations), but they can help extend the life of N95 masks or be used in combination with a face shield if N95 masks are not available.
We've started commissioning face masks from costume-making friends who do not have income coming in. They have the skills but not the funds to contribute to the effort, so that's where we come in! They are on a roll and now have a good supply of materials - we are up to 50 masks and going strong. But, they are working so fast that our budget is diminishing, so asking for some contributions!
Buy one mask for $14! Or chip in however much you like! The mask-makers are being compensated for materials and getting a bit of $ to get through this uncertain time.
