Commentating for a Cause 2021
Hi, Lachy Mansell here - you may recognise me from my recent appearance on Australian reality TV!
I'm excited to announce a new initiative - Commentating for a Cause, and I'm proud to be using my passion for motorsport commentary to benefit the wider community.
Each year, I will choose a specific Commentating for a Cause motorsport event; instead of taking payment from the event organisers for my services, I will ask them to put that money towards the selected charity and members of the public will also be able to contribute donations.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, I'm not getting to commentate much real-life motorsport at the moment, so I've turned to the sim racing world for the 2021 Commentating for a Cause event instead: I'll be calling the V8SCOPS (V8 Sim Racing Online Premier Series) Bathurst 1000 - essentially the virtual version of Australia's most famous motor race.
The charity I've selected for the inaugural CFAC event is the Burns Support Foundation. It's something close to my heart, because my good friend Maddi Scordia was involved in a horrific fire accident last year, suffering full-thickness burns to 60 per cent of her body.
The Burns Support Foundation provides valuable support to victims during the recovery phase. The physical recovery is obviously a challenge, but one of the things I’ve learned from Maddi is that the mental recovery is equally important.
The 2021 V8SCOPS Bathurst 1000, held on the iRacing platform, will be live streamed by the SimSpeedTV network and broadcast on a range of platforms including YouTube, Twitter and Facebook Live. It will be held on Sunday, 19 September.
