 Gjergj Vlashi left a lasting mark on Durres and its cultural life. Creating this memorial is a way for the community to come together to honor his memory, preserve his legacy, and give future generations a lasting reminder of someone who gave so much to the city and its culture. It is also a meaningful way to celebrate the impact Gjergj Vlashi continues to have on the people and spirit of Durres. 
 
 
 Funds raised will be used exclusively for the statue project, including the artist's work, materials, production, transportation, installation, and other necessary project-related expenses.  Një borxh mirënjohjeje ndaj një jete kushtuar kulturës shqiptare

Ka njerëz që largohen nga jeta, por nuk largohen kurrë nga kujtesa e një qyteti dhe e një kombi.

Prof. Gjergj Vlashi, “Nderi i Kombit”, ishte një prej tyre.

Regjisor, shkrimtar, dramaturg, skenarist dhe përkthyes, Gjergj Vlashi ia kushtoi jetën artit, letërsisë, teatrit dhe qytetit të tij, Durrësit.

Për dekada të tëra ai ishte një nga figurat më të rëndësishme të jetës kulturore të qytetit. Si regjisor i Estradës Profesioniste të Durrësit dhe një nga pionierët e varietesë shqiptare, ai vuri në skenë mbi 120 shfaqje dhe la gjurmë të thella në historinë e teatrit dhe të humorit shqiptar.

Por Gjergj Vlashi jetoi po aq fuqishëm edhe mes librave.

Si shkrimtar dhe përkthyes, ai solli pranë lexuesit shqiptar autorë të mëdhenj të letërsisë botërore, ndërsa krijimtaria e tij përfshiu prozën, dramaturgjinë, skenarin dhe studimet kulturore. Për kontributin e tij të jashtëzakonshëm u nderua me tituj të lartë, ndër ta “Artist i Popullit”, “Mjeshtër i Madh” dhe “Nderi i Kombit”.

Sot, ne - miq, kolegë, shkrimtarë, artistë, qytetarë të Durrësit dhe shqiptarë që jetojnë brenda dhe jashtë atdheut - kemi marrë një nismë:

Të ngremë në Durrës monumentin e Prof. Gjergj Vlashit.

Jo vetëm për të nderuar një njeri, por për të përjetësuar atë që ai përfaqësoi: librin, skenën, kulturën, qytetarinë dhe dashurinë për Durrësin.

MONUMENTI

Monumenti po realizohet nga skulptori mjeshtër Idriz Balani, autor i konceptit dhe bocetit artistik.

Në të, Gjergj Vlashi paraqitet i ulur mes librave, duke shkruar - ashtu siç shumë prej nesh e kujtojnë: i rrethuar nga letërsia dhe kultura, në një dialog të pandërprerë me fjalën.

Monumenti synon të mos jetë vetëm një përmendore, por një vepër arti e gjallë në hapësirën publike të Durrësit; një vend ku brezat e sotëm dhe ata që do të vijnë të mund të takohen simbolikisht me një prej njerëzve që i dha aq shumë kulturës së këtij qyteti dhe të Shqipërisë. Për realizimin e kësaj vepre kemi nevojë për mbështetjen tuaj.  Çdo kontribut, pavarësisht shumës, na afron me realizimin e kësaj vepre.

Por edhe nëse nuk keni mundësi të dhuroni, mund të na ndihmoni duke shpërndarë këtë fushatë. Një shpërndarje mund ta çojë nismën tonë te një shqiptar në një tjetër qytet, në një tjetër shtet apo në një tjetër kontinent, që e ka njohur Gjergj Vlashin, ka lexuar librat e tij, ka parë shfaqjet e tij ose thjesht beson se një komb duhet t'i nderojë njerëzit që i kanë shërbyer kulturës së tij.

Le ta ngremë së bashku këtë monument.

Sepse një qytet që kujton njerëzit e tij të kulturës, ruan edhe kujtesën e vet.

Dhe sepse Gjergj Vlashi meriton të mbetet aty ku kaloi një pjesë të madhe të jetës së tij - mes njerëzve dhe në zemër të Durrësit.
