follows three college students as they experience their "spark moments," followed by the moments that lead up to them coming out of the closet and the moments that follow. The stories are told in short vignette style scenes, so that the characters' stories seem independent from one another. In the end, we see that all of the stories are a part of the greater story as a whole.*THE JOURNEY*
I wrote Coming Out
as a one act musical while attending The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's National Theater Institute this past fall. It was selected for Playwrights and Librettists week, where it was produced as a staged reading over eight hours and performed before a panel and my class mates.
When I returned to New York, I expanded the show from a one act musical to a full length piece. It now runs about 60-70 minutes with no intermission. This will be the first time presenting the full length show.
*OUR BUDGET & GOALS
As far as festivals go, both the HOT! Festival at Dixon Place and Failsafe Festival both make the process relatively feasable; the opportunities and benefits are invaluable — a top-shelf performance space, massive exposure, audiences full of important members of the theatre industry...next steps, everywhere you look.
What isnt isn't covered? Things like rehearsal space rentals, musician and music director fees, program and material production, props, costumes, and promotional materials. This is where you come in!
Please help us make this future a reality — we cannot do this without you! In exchange for your contribution, you will receive the tiered perks outlined below, as as well as our vow to pour everything we have into this production. To quote Christmas Eve from Avenue Q, "Every little bit helps."
* WHAT ELSE YOU CAN DO *
Share, share, share! Sharing your enthusiasm for this project via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, phone, and word of mouth is a gift that keeps on giving. Please take this project viral by passing it along to friends and family!
