In 2011, my daughter Addie was burned in a fire at our home. She spent 48 days in the burn ICU at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. The experience was the most traumatic and heartbreaking thing our family had ever faced, but the care and compassion we received from the staff at Harborview made all the difference. Every year since then, we have donated coffee for the nurses and Pillow Pets for pediatric burn survivors, hoping to bring comfort and a sense of belonging to children facing unimaginable challenges. 
 
 
 
 Becoming a burn survivor is one of the most traumatic events a person can go through, especially for children. Harborview Medical Center is the best trauma center in the region, but it is not specifically geared toward pediatrics. That’s why we focus on providing Pillow Pets—these stuffed animals offer comfort and understanding to new burn survivors, helping them feel less alone during their recovery. This year, we want to ensure that every pediatric burn survivor at Harborview receives a Pillow Pet. 
 
 
 
 Addie was burned when she was four years old. Now, 15 years later, she is graduating high school and heading to college to become a physical therapist. Last year, she even skydived with a former burn ICU nurse! The burn community has become our family, and giving back helps heal our hearts, piece by piece.
