Atlas the Protector - terminal cancer - help with medical bills and comfort
Atlas is a 5-year-old Great Pyrenees/Maremma mix and he's been our livestock guardian dog to our organic and free-range chickens, turkey, and pigs, located in Southern Oregon. In January 2025, we noticed a growth appear on his right hind leg at the hock, causing damaging swelling to the point that we needed to amputate the leg at the hip just two weeks later...
Further testing of the bone came back positive for cancer, a form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. Medically, this form of cancer is terminal and the disease has a prognosis of 3-6 months without treatment, or it could be just be a few short weeks. This is a painful cancer and we want him to be close to us. While Atlas is hobbling around OK in our basement and on the deck, this big guy is slowing down and honestly, we're devastated and overwhelmed by this news as a neurodivergent family facing disability ourselves all while raising a 1-year-old. We need help.
As we adjust and set him up for an easy transition as the cancer progresses, we need help paying for a few medical bills and comfort. Donations will be going towards paying for his emergency surgery ($2500), a new dog bed, dog CBD for pain management, and joint supplements.
We thank you for your time and care in reading our story. Any contributions are deeply appreciated.
