Comets RC Model Airplane Runway Repaving

We are an RC model airplane club located at Lake Casitas, California.  We are designated as a non profit 501 C(7) sport club. We have been in operation for over 50 years and are a chartered club (#173) with the Academy of Modeling Aeronautics. Beyond flying our models, we are committed to promote, and advance model aviation as a hobby, sport and educational tool. We participate in community events, such as the Ojai 4th of July Parade, presentations to local clubs and organizations, and involvement with many school programs focused on aviation education.

 

Our flying site is solely funded and maintained by our Club. Our runway and taxi areas are graded and covered with asphalt.  In 2013, as an alternative to repaving the runway with asphalt, which was cost prohibitive, we covered it with a Geo Tex paving fabric. In February 2020 we experienced a sever wind storm that damaged the Geo Tex fabric beyond repair. A short time later we removed the Geo Tex fabric and are now pursuing a project to repave the runway and taxi ways with new asphalt.

 

Repaving contractors estimate the project cost at $30,000. Currently our treasury can contribute $10,000 to this project. Our goal is to raise $20,000. Our only source of reoccurring revenue is our annual club dues. Funding for the repaving project will have to come from fund raising efforts and contributions from generous donors that share our passion for the sport and hobby. All moneys received will be held in a separate, tax exempt account and used exclusively for this project. Any amount of funds contributed are sincerely appreciated. We also ask that you share our project and fund raising effort with friends, family members and associates that may also want to contribute to paying for the cost of repaving our runway.
