Flappers Comedy Club & Rest Small Business Relief

Ok, so here's the nuts and bolts of it:

Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant opened on Sept 8th 2010 -  And has been operating very successfully until the COVID 19 crisis hit.   On March 15th 2020 Flappers Comedy Club & Restaurant in California  was forced to shut down due to the COVID 19 crisis.   As of May 16th, The state has not yet announced a  plan or date for reopening.    We're talking  about 51 Employees, over 2000 shows a year, with over 4000 performance spots a year, and approximately 1500  guests attended per week. That is +/- 1.5 million laughs a year .  They generated over $600,000 for local non profits over the past ten years by steadily holding fundraisers and consistently donating tickets and passes to a wide variety of charity and causes. The club's success is due to the hard work and dedication of the staff, management, ownership and the support of the community..  But now Flappers Comedy Club needs a little more of that support.  It is nearly impossible for a business to stay afloat with no revenue coming in.  Unfortunately Flappers has had to lay off over 90% of its staff.

What most people don't know is that most comedy clubs in this country are independently owned by small business entrepreneurs who risk their livelihoods, homes, and lucrative careers,  to create these comedy clubs because they believe in the art of  comedy and making people laugh.

Comedy Clubs are extremely essential to the Comedy industry,  you can think of them as a kind of "gym" for comedians.  In order to master the art of stand up comedy it must be worked out in front of a live audience.  That has all changed since the onset of the Coronavirus. Without the comedy club there can be no live comedy.   Without any revenue coming in most of these clubs will not be able to survive due to the fact that they will not be able to pay comedians, employees, rent, utilities, insurance, or any of the other massive expenses involved in running a small business.

Flappers has been doing its best to reinvent its currently business model to accommodate for the current COVID conditions, including transforming the Restaurant into a takeout business and converting the comedy classes and live shows into all virtual shows and trying to generate some revenue that way, but that is not going to be enough to keep the club alive through a lengthy closure.

Small business owners and comedians of all levels have truly been devastated by this business closure, basically they've all been told that they are non-essential and can no longer do business.   This is truly a loss to the to the community, small business owners, comedians, chefs, cooks, servers, bartenders, hosts, ticket agents, office staff whose sole income and jobs were cut off in just one day. We hope to stay alive long enough to bring back as many of these employees as we can.

The funds will be used to assist Flappers Comedy Club & Restaurant by paying a skeleton staff to ensure that the club can safely restart its regular operations when allowed to do so.  Please help do what you can, any little bit helps!   We're not just asking for handouts, we're asking for "come-back outs."   We would like to offer anyone who donates $1000 or more will get a Lifetime of Laughs (LOL) pass.  The pass, which is fully transferable, allows for 2 free tickets to any Flappers show that is not a special event, along with 10% off on all food, tickets for shows, and classes.

Ok, so here's the bottom line directly from an employee:

Barb and Dave  gave me opportunities that nobody else ever did.  They are people of great character who have dedicated the better part of their lives to create the best possible environment for comedians, staff, and guests.  Instead of giving up, they have generously given food and groceries to their employees and comedians in need.  They have worked tirelessly to keep the club alive and to do what they can for us.   We have no idea how long this thing's gonna last, and even if we could reopen  today, the process of re-building our momentum is going to be long and hard.  Please help with whatever you can, and continue to stay safe.

Thank You,

Joshua Snyder, Booker and Sales & Marketing Director
