Combat For Celia

Donation protected
Our daughter Celia was only 5 months old when she was diagnosed with retinoblastoma- a cancer of the eye found in children. She began treatment right away which included 6 months of chemotherapy and multiple eye exams under anesthesia w/laser treatment. You can read Her entire story and follow along the journey here: https://m.facebook.com/combatforcelia/

Celia will be 3 on August 25 and is still fighting this nasty thing called cancer! We travel to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston from our home on the outskirts of San Antonio almost monthly for ongoing eye exams under anesthesia (she has had over 30!!) where Celia continues to receive laser treatments to the tumor in her eye. She is also seen at TCH in Houston for surveillance MRIs every 6 months as well as oncologist appointments with blood work. We pay several thousand dollars out of pocket towards our deductible before insurance coverage takes over every year. This in addition to things like eye patches she wears daily and glasses she is required to wear as well.

The trip from our home to TCH is 215 miles one way (that's 430 miles each trip & well over 5,000 miles each year!). Not only do we put significant wear on our vehicle, but we typically have to find a place to stay for the night while we are in Houston along with food, gas and any parking fees incurred in our trip. Given the nature of the OR scheduling, we are not notified until the day before her appointment what time we are to arrive for check-in. This can typically be anywhere from 6am-11am meaning the only way to ensure we arrive on time, is to stay in a hotel the night before. We also have to ensure that our oldest daughter  who is in school has adequate care while we travel away from home. As parents we have to miss work, or when our PTO is exhausted (as it has been recently), one of us is forced to travel alone while the other stays behind rather than miss a day's pay.

We appreciate all the love & prayers that has been offered to our family! We express gratitude to God for showing us the good in this world through you all over these last couple years.

We just wanted to share that this battle is ongoing, and the financial impact on our family (& any family facing a cancer diagnosis) is great. We trust in our God and we will make it work some how!! We greatly appreciate any contribution be it financial or through prayers. It does not go  unnoticed and we are forever grateful for each of you!
