CU Spiritual Healing Research

This fall, thirty spiritual healers, are conducting a groundbreaking study through Columbia University that requires critical funding.

We are confident this study will have an important impact on the practices of complementary and alternative medicine that are offered for serious illness. Your gift will make a true difference in this expanding field, and it will support our service to people with serious illness.

Spiritual healing is a powerful modality that can be used in addition to traditional medicine and psychology. It involves an intentional influence, without physical intervention, and is cited among the most prevalent forms of alternative treatments. Our personal experience has shown that attending to the whole human, including mind, body, and spirit, dramatically improves the outcomes for people who have cancer and other serious illnesses.

STUDY OVERVIEW, PURPOSE, AND CONTRIBUTION:

This yearlong research study is being conducted through Teachers College, Columbia University, as a part of the dissertation of doctoral candidate Sarah Sherman.

The research study will be an in-depth analysis of spiritual healing. It will examine how a group of spiritual healers, trained by world-renowned spiritual healer, Ron Young, perceive sessions with their clients. The findings from the healer and client data will add to a body of knowledge, which in turn will deepen our collective understanding of healing.

It is our hope that the study will also help fill gaps in research as it pertains to spiritual health, providing insight into a highly impactful healing modality.

WHAT MAKES THIS STUDY UNIQUE:

This is a landmark study. In a literature review that Sarah conducted, examining 10,000 studies, she found that this study provides a unique contribution in that: 1) in recent years there has been a great increase in people offering and receiving complementary and alternative treatments, which require examination; 2) the study will provide in-depth and long-term data on the perceptions of spiritual healers; 3) there will be a group of 30 healers working with one client at a time, allowing for comparisons of their perceptions, rather than one healer per client which is commonly studied; and 4) this group of healers is highly educated, all with a minimum of bachelor’s degrees and the majority with master’s degrees. Each of these points that have been discussed are extremely unusual for studies within the field of complementary and alternative medicine.

HOW WE WILL SHARE THE RESULTS:

The findings and collective work will be presented at an evening venue in Summer 2019 in NYC. The night will be guided and inspired by the intersection of spiritual healing and research.

FUNDING GOAL:

Total: $100,000
All expenses will be made public. Any funding that you contribute will not influence the research, including recruitment procedures, data, and data analysis.

We believe spiritual healing is essential and life altering. Please support our efforts in bringing this work to the forefront of traditional medical alternatives.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about our approach please reach out to Sarah for more details.
