Crowdfunding waarmee we Collette (3) dolfijntherapie willen laten volgen in 2020.

Collette
Collette liep een groot hersenletsel op bij de geboorte. Hierdoor heeft zij hersenverlamming (ook Cerebrale Parese of kort CP genoemd). Dit houdt in dat zij moeilijkheden heeft bij het bewegen van de linkerhelft van haar lichaam. Zo is wandelen zeer moeilijk. Haar arm en hand kan ze amper bewegen, noch aansturen. Ze krijgt permanent sondevoeding. Sinds kort heeft zich een zware vorm van epilepsie ontwikkeld.

Dolfijntherapie
Het CDTC (Curaçao Dolphin Therapy & Research Center) biedt een twee weken durend programma aan voor kinderen met zeer uiteenlopende diagnoses. Het centrum krijgt jaarlijks honderden kinderen, jongeren en volwassenen over de vloer van over de hele wereld. Een multidisciplinair team (kinesist, ergotherapeut, logopedist en psycholoog) biedt een behandeling op maat met vooraf bepaalde doelstellingen, in overleg met onze artsen én aanvullend op de therapie die het kind reeds krijgt.

Een dagelijkse sessie ziet er als volgt uit:
• Een half uur conventionele therapie in een speciale behandelkamer
• Een uur door de dolfijn ondersteunde therapie op het platform en in het water
• Een half uur alledaagse vaardigheden oefenen als douchen, omkleden en organiseren
• Evaluatie 

Bovendien wordt er 'huiswerk' meegegeven om zelf aan de slag te gaan na de therapie.

Collette naar de dolfijnen in 2020

De ouders hebben veel geluisterd naar de ervaringen van andere ouders met CP kinderen en zij hebben hen super enthousiast gemaakt omtrent de therapie! Los van de waanzinnige vooruitgangen, is de therapie eveneens een leuker alternatief voor de dagdagelijkse kinesitherapie.

Voor Collette zal dit maw een boost zijn om zich te blijven inzetten!

Collette
Collette suffered a major brain injury at birth. Because of this she has cerebral palsy (CP). This means that she has difficulties moving the left half of her body. This makes walking very difficult. She can hardly move her arm and hand, nor can she control it. She is constantly fed with enteral feeding. A severe form of epilepsy has recently developed.


Dolphin therapy
The CDTC (Curaçao Dolphin Therapy & Research Center) offers a two-week program for children with very different diagnoses. The center receives hundreds of children, young people and adults every year from all over the world. A multidisciplinary team (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist and psychologist) offers tailor-made treatment with predetermined objectives, in consultation with our doctors and in addition to the therapy that the child is already receiving.

A daily session looks like this:
• Half an hour of conventional therapy in a special treatment room
• An hour-long therapy supported by the dolphin on the platform and in the water
• Practice half an hour of everyday skills such as showering, changing clothes and organizing
• Evaluation

Moreover, 'homework' is given to get started yourself after the therapy.

Collette to the Dolphins in 2020
The parents have listened a lot to the experiences of other parents with CP children and they have made them super enthusiastic about the therapy! Apart from the amazing advances, the therapy is also a nicer alternative to daily physiotherapy.

In other words, this will be a boost for Collette to keep being motivated!
