College Senior Needing Help with Rent & Car

Donation protected

Hi, thank you for visiting. To introduce myself, I’m a senior honors student in college in South Carolina. I work full time (45+ hours a week) at a local market, and I also have a fellowship based on philanthropy and community.

I have worked incredibly hard for everything I have, but, recently, the costs continue to pile up at a speed I cannot keep up with. My car, a 2011 Hyundai, began to intermittently not crank. Sometimes, it would decide to crank after 30 minutes, but other times it would take days. This problem began in August. I have spent over 700 dollars over the course of 4 months taking it to the Hyundai dealership and other mechanics and auto shops. No one seems to have an answer, and it was even referred to as a “ghost” issue, meaning there is no sign of any issue. This car makes it dangerous because I can be stranded at work, alone, and in the dark for hours at a time before anyone is able to come get me or before my car starts.

Then, my mother was laid off from her job, andthat put more of a strain on money. Now, it is even more difficult to afford to take my car to mechanics. Thanks to Murphy’s Law, anything that can go wrong, will. So, of course, when I started using my moms car to get to work and she was using it for interviews and necessary errands, the upper radiator hose blew (as pictured above). This was fixed, along with the thermostat, but the car continues to overheat. Again, I am pouring hundreds of dollars into cars that seem impossible to fix.

Now, with my last semester of college quickly approaching, I fear that I won’t be able to finish school and continue to work. Since both carsare broken and my mother is out of a job, we do not have the money to buy a new car or continue to pay for “fixes” that never work. This is why I decided to start a gofundme. As covid impacts us all, my family and I understand it’s a hard time for everyone. With that being said, we would greatly appreciate any help, shares, ordonations you can provide.

I struggle with anxiety, and the thought of not being able to finish college or afford rent due to the lack of car access and my mother being laid off is crippling. I know we will find a way to continue on, and I hope peace finds us. Thank you in advance for your kindness and support in such a dark time.
