College Bound from the DR to the US

Francys is a young woman from the Dominican Republic who has already achieved extraordinary scholarly and personal feats and she needs your support to transition to the next step in her education. Francy is from a rural valley in the Dominican Republic and attended the country's first public magnet school where I was honored to be her teacher for a year. She excelled in my English class and was selected to participate in an advanced English group for students interested in studying in the United States.
During her last year of high school she was accepted into a special program at an elite boarding school in Massachusetts where she was invited to do a "repeat senior year" to continue improving her English and to be in a position where she could successfully apply to colleges and universities in the U.S. Although this program would require Francys to leap into the unknown, leaving behind family and friends and entering an extraordinarily demanding academic setting, Francys moved forward with courage and grace.
I was fortunate enough to attend her graduation from this program and cannot describe how in awe I am of her journey and her dedication to her education. She impressed the leaders of that program so much, that they asked her to nominate another student from her Dominican high school to also attend the boarding school. In this beautiful way, she has already given back to her community.
I am now asking on her behalf, for you to give for her next step: college. Francys was accepted to several colleges in the U.S., with offers of half-scholarships and one that has offered a full-scholarship. However, the moving and living expenses involved are still a great stress on her and her family. While she has family in the DR and the Bronx that will support her throughout her college career, it is my hope that we can give Francys a gift of $5,000 that she will be able to use on flights, housing and food for her freshmen year. With this gift Francys and her family would be able to put more focus on tackling the other great challenges that they will encounter with their upcoming transition.
