Colleen and Phil's Perfect Match Journey

Donation protected
Hello everyone!  We (Matt, Yvonne and Paige) have set up this Go Fund Me page to raise money for this Fantastic couple.  The times ahead for them are going to be emotionally, physically, and financially challenging.

Phil and Colleen have been together for 4 years.  Engaged and planned to be married in May of 2020, but those plans had to be postponed.  Colleen’s health started to fail last fall.  Having lived the last 17 years thanks to a kidney donated by her brother.  She was hospitalized in January and again in February only to find out that she was once again in kidney failure and would soon need another transplant.

Now bring on COVID-19 with the wedding already being postponed, the testing for a live kidney donor was as well.  Without an immediate transplant, Colleen was now faced with multiple months of medication trials and tests.  Her days of feeling unwell have far outnumbered her good days.  While dialysis was now unavoidable, she had surgery in early June to insert a port and soon started treatment.

Phil, of course being the caring giving person he is absolutely wanted to get tested to see if he could be a live donor match.  If unable to give his directly to her, he was happy to be a donor for a stranger also in need of a kidney.  Willing to do whatever he could so that Colleen might receive a kidney sooner rather than having to wait.

With Phase 2 of COVID-19 re-opening, Phil received the green light and the paperwork to start the live donor testing process.  After weeks of testing, waiting, and emotional uncertainty, he finally received the call we were all waiting for…. A PERECT MATCH!!!

The weeks ahead will include more testing and multiple trips to Vancouver to meet the transplant team and finalize plans for the actual transplant date.

Fast forward to the days and weeks after the transplant completion…. Phil will be required to stay in Vancouver for approximately 2 weeks post kidney removal.  While Colleen must relocate to Vancouver for 3 to 4 months so she is close to the hospital and specialists whom she is required to meet with regularly to monitor her progress and healing.

The funds raised will go towards Phil and Colleen’s temporary housing, transportation costs, and any other day to day needs they may have while in recovery in Vancouver and when Phil is back for the remainder of his recovery at home.  Colleen has been off work since the beginning of the year, and Phil, being the only current income for their family, will also be off for a number of weeks for his recovery.  Their cost of living will soon double while their income will be drastically reduced.

We are asking for everyone’s help and support for this FANTASTIC couple during this time of hardship.  They would undoubtedly do the same and more for any one of their friends and family.  Phil and Colleen are always willing to help anyone!  Now is our time to step up and do the same for them!  Every dollar we raise for them will help ease the stress and financial burdens that they will endure.

We appreciate you taking the time to read this and we hope that you will consider making a donation.

Thank you so much, Matt, Yvonne and Paige
